Event Overview

The Northshore Run takes place in Duluth, Minnesota, as part of a larger weekend of athletic events. It offers participants the opportunity to compete in running, inline skating, or rollerskiing through scenic locations. The event is characterized by its point-to-point course along the North Shore, providing views of Lake Superior.

Participants in the running events can choose from two specific distances:

  • Aspirus Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
  • Finden Marketing Tunnel 10k (6.2 miles)

The routes are known for featuring smooth pavement and gentle elevations. A notable feature of the event is the passage through a fully closed section of I-35, where athletes glide through the Duluth tunnels. Both races conclude at a finish line located on the Duluth lakefront.

Race Weekend Experience

The event coincides with the Duluth Oktoberfest, and registrants receive free entry to the festival. Participants also receive a custom finisher medal, a race bib with their name, and a finisher shirt. A health expo is held the day before the races at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, where over 70 vendors display gear and services, and runners can pick up their race packets.

Shuttle buses are provided to transport athletes to the various starting points. The half marathon distance is also open to rollerski and inline skate participants, while the longer 26.2-mile marathon and a 39.3-mile combined event are available for those using skates or rollerskis. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in various age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
