Event overview
The Mineshaft 10k is scheduled for April 4, 2026 in Buchanan, VA. The event includes an in-person 10k, a 10k virtual run, and a 10k plus RNUTS bundle. Registration opens in November. The race is capped at 100 entries and has limited parking at the Bearwallow Day Use Area. A virtual option is offered; virtual registrations will receive the race shirt if registered by March 11, 2026, otherwise registrants receive a Mountain Junkies LLC Hoo Rag.
Course and logistics
The course uses part of the Hellgate 100k route on the Glenwood Horse Trail between Bobletts Gap Road and Bearwallow Trailhead. Runners leave the parking area and ride buses to the start, approximately 4.1 miles away; riding the provided shuttle is required. The route begins with about 1 mile on a dirt road, then a steep climb of 0.3 miles onto the Glenwood Horse Trail, followed by 5 miles on the trail to the finish. The final 1.5 miles are primarily downhill. Runners should note rock gardens near the 5 mile mark. In the event of inclement weather the race may be run as an out-and-back. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged.
Packet pickup and awards
Packet pickup is scheduled in the days before the race at local pickup locations and at Bearwallow Day Use Area on race weekend. Awards include top three overall male and female, first male and female masters, and medals for the top three in each of 13 age groups (14 and under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 and up).
