Event
The Mineshaft 10k is scheduled for April 4, 2026 in Buchanan, VA. The event includes an in-person 10k, a 10k virtual run, and a bundle option with RNUTS. Entry is capped at 100. The race is organized by Mountain Junkies L.L.C.
Course and logistics
The route uses a backcountry section of the Glenwood Horse Trail, following roughly miles 47–52 of the Hellgate 100k course in reverse, between Bobletts Gap Road and the Bearwallow Trailhead. The course climbs about 1 mile on a dirt road, then rises steeply for 0.3 miles onto the Glenwood Horse Trail. Runners remain on the GHT for about 5 miles, with rolling terrain until the final 1.5 miles, which features a steep descent. There are rock gardens near the 5 mile mark. Due to private property and limited space at the start, runners must use shuttle buses from the race headquarters; there is no parking or spectators at the start. Parking at the Bearwallow Day Use area is limited; organizers encourage carpooling. In inclement weather, the race may be run as an out-and-back.
Registration and awards
The organizer published tiered registration fees for the in-person 10k ($35, $40, $45, $50 depending on date). The virtual option is listed at $25 and qualifies as an RNUTS race; registrants receive a race shirt if registered by 3/11/26, otherwise they receive a Mountain Junkies LLC Hoo Rag. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers, first male and female masters, and the top three in 13 age groups (14 and under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70+).
