Mineshaft 10k
The Mineshaft 10k is a trail race held in Buchanan, Virginia. The event includes a 10k run and a virtual run option. The race uses part of the Hellgate 100k course in reverse.
The route is on the Glenwood Horse Trail, a backcountry trail between Bobletts Gap Road and the Bearwallow Trailhead. The first part climbs for about 1 mile on a dirt road, followed by a steep 0.3-mile climb onto the trail. Runners remain on the Glenwood Horse Trail for the final 5 miles to the finish. The trail passes many old mines and features an up-and-down profile. The final 1.5 miles involve a fast descent. A rock garden is located at the 5-mile mark.
Due to parking limitations at the event area, vehicle capacity is capped at 100. A shuttle transports participants to the start line, which is 4.1 miles away. Participants are encouraged to carpool and park efficiently. In case of inclement weather, the race may be run as an out-and-back course.
