Event details
The Mineshaft 10k takes place on April 4, 2026, in the Buchanan, Virginia area and includes an in-person 10k, a virtual run, and an RNUTS bundle option. The event is capped at 100 entries. A shuttle will transport runners from the race headquarters to the start, 4.1 miles away; due to space constraints there is no parking or spectators at the start area. The park has limited parking. Packet pickup is scheduled on the days before and the morning of the race at local pickup locations.
Course and logistics
The course uses part of the Hellgate 100k route (miles 47-52) run in reverse along the Glenwood Horse Trail between Bobletts Gap Road and the Bearwallow Trailhead. Runners will climb about 1 mile on a dirt road, then climb steeply for 0.3 miles onto the Glenwood Horse Trail and remain on that trail for roughly 5 miles to the finish. The route is up and down until the final 1.5 miles, which is predominantly downhill. Rock gardens are located near the 5 mile mark. In the event of inclement weather, the race may be run as an out-and-back. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers and to the top masters, with medals for the top three in 13 age groups. Race rules note that dogs are not permitted, race numbers must be visible on the front, and amplified music is not allowed on course.
