About the race
The Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic is a community road race held in Bedford, Virginia, and is celebrating its 47th year. The event is centered at Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood St., Bedford, VA 24523, with a course that follows the Bedford Loop and returns to the church for the finish.
Two in-person distances are offered:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 1 Mile (Peaks Junior)
The event uses disposable MyLaps race bib chip timing. Awards include top overall and masters winners, top three in each age group, and custom age-group medals. Additional awards include the Top of the Hill challenge with separate prizes for the first male and female to reach Bedford Memorial Hill and a costume prize for festive participants. Results are posted after the event and awards may be picked up later if participants cannot stay for the ceremony.
Teams may register for a team competition; a team requires a minimum of five members and the corporate cup is awarded to the team with the lowest cumulative time. Assisted participants using an appropriate stroller must register both the assisted participant and the pusher; assisted entries are ranked separately.
Proceeds support the Bedford Area YMCA Financial Aid Program and fund scholarships allowing low- and fixed-income families, seniors, and individuals to access YMCA health, wellness, and childcare programs. Packet pickup is available at the Bedford Area Family YMCA and at the race headquarters; t-shirts are guaranteed for those registered by November 16.
