Event overview
The Montvale trail races take place on February 28, 2026, at Montvale Park in Montvale, VA (1092 Marketplace Drive). The event offers on-site and virtual options and is limited to 225 in-person runners. Registration opens in November. Early registration fees start at $30 for the 5 mile race and $35 for the 8.4 mile race. A virtual option for each distance is listed at $25.

Course and logistics
Montvale Park contains a 6.5 mile trail system that passes through old growth forest. Both courses are single-lap, trail routes that cross a creek and finish at the park pavilion. The organizer notes mileage measured by bike odometer; GPS may report shorter distances (about 4.5 miles for the 5M and about 7.75 miles for the 8.4M). Packet pickup is scheduled at local pickup sites in the days before the race and at Montvale Park on race day. The park parking area is limited; participants are asked to carpool.
Awards and rules
Top three overall male and female finishers and first-place masters receive awards. There are 13 male and female age groups with medals for the top three in each group, from 14 and under through 70 and up. Key race rules include no dogs, bibs worn on the front, following marked trails, and no amplified music on course. If a runner drops out, they should notify organizers.
