MIA Runway 5K Series
The MIA Runway 5K Series consists of multiple running events held directly on the runways of major airports in Miami-Dade County. This event series benefits the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. Participants have the opportunity to run in restricted aviation areas normally reserved for aircraft.
The series includes events at three distinct locations:
- 5 km at Miami Executive Airport (TMB)
- 5 km and 10 km options at Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport (OPF)
- 5 km at Miami International Airport (MIA)
The event at Miami Executive Airport is hosted at the Wings Over Miami Air Museum, a location that pays tribute to civilian and military aviation history. The Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport event is organized as a night race. This airport is notable for being home to one of the busiest U.S. Coast Guard Air-Sea Rescue Stations.
The event at Miami International Airport permits runners to use runway 8L-26R, which is 8,600 feet long. This specific race is hosted at an American Airlines maintenance hangar located at the edge of the runway. Across the series, the events attract several thousand participants and spectators.
The courses are located on active airport grounds, providing a flat and paved surface for running. Participants can register for individual races or for the entire series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
