Mercer County Twilight QUAD : Fredonia 5K (Event 3)
The Fredonia 5K is the third race in the Mercer County Twilight QUAD, a long-running summer series now in its 43rd year. The event takes place in downtown Fredonia, PA, and is one of four weekly 5K races that make up the QUAD series. Over 50,000 finishers have been recorded through the first 140 events of the series.
The Fredonia course is a 5,000 meter out and back route described as rolling, with a gradual half mile downhill finish. All 5K events use chip timing with timing mats at miles 1, 2, and 3 to provide split times. The event is open to runners and walkers; there are no separate awards for walkers.
Awards and categories for the 5K include top 5 male and top 5 female overall finishers, top masters male and female, and the top 3 in each age group. Age groups span 11 and under through 70 plus. Runners who complete all four events in the QUAD receive a commemorative award; each year more than 150 participants complete the full series.
A children's half mile race is held at the events for ages 11 and under. Each child receives a finisher ribbon and age group awards. Specialty QUAD shirts will be available on site on a first come first serve basis. Base race entry fees include refreshments, results, and race entry; race clothing is sold separately.
