Mayor's Run for the Trails 5K and Kids Fun Runs
The Mayor's Run for the Trails event takes place on October 10, 2026, at Crown Point Community Center, 6300 Pioneer Parkway, Johnston, IA. The program includes a community 5K run/walk and two untimed kids fun runs.

- 0.62 miles kids loop around the lake
- 3.12 miles 5K run/walk
Registration and fees vary by event. The 5K entry fee is $30 plus a $2.80 sign up fee. Optional add-ons include a T-shirt for $10 and a finisher medal for $5; there is an additional charge for plus sizes. 5K registration increases to $40 after September 30 with no shirt add-on option. The 100 m kids dash is free to race; shirt and medal options require pre-registration. The 0.62 mile kids run has a $10 entry plus a $1.60 sign up fee and similar shirt and medal add-ons; its registration increases after September 30.
Logistics and amenities include chip timing for each 5K participant, posted course maps for the 5K and kids runs, and packet pickup available on Friday, October 9 at Crown Point Community Center as well as on race morning. After the event bagels, water, and fruit will be available. Runners will be photographed during the event. Age group prizes for 5K runners are awarded to top females and males in these groups: 19 and under, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, and 60 plus.
