About the race
Mayor's Run for the Trails takes place at Terra Park Amphitheater in Johnston, Iowa, and includes a community 5K and two children’s fun runs around the park and lake. The event location is 6300 Pioneer Parkway, Johnston, IA 50131, with packet pickup available Friday, October 9, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Crown Point Community Center and on race morning starting at 8:30 a.m.
Event distances:
- 100 meters kids fun run (ages 2 to 5)
- 0.62 miles kids fun run (ages 6 to 10)
- 3.12 miles Mayor's Run for the Trails 5K
Registration details are provided for each race. The 5K race fee is $30.00 plus a $2.80 sign-up fee and tax; the base race fee increases to $40.00 after September 21, 2026 and registrants after that date do not receive a T-shirt. Kids fun runs list a $15.00 fee plus a $1.90 sign-up fee and tax; children may also run on race day without advance registration at no cost but will not receive a shirt or medal. T-shirts are included with registration when completed by September 21, 2026. Finisher medals are included with races while supplies last; the mayor will present finisher medals at the finish line.
The kids races are untimed. Food such as bagels, water, and fruit is available after the event. Runners may be photographed during the event. Only 5K runners are eligible for age group awards given to male and female winners in listed age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
