The Equalizer 6, 12 & 24 Hour Run
The Equalizer is an endurance running event held at Gray's Lake Park, Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA, USA. It offers timed ultra-distance running on a looped course and includes support services and post-race awards.
The event is designed for three purposes: to provide an opportunity for new and veteran runners to test themselves at an ultra distance; to score performances using an age/sex equalizer so competitors from different age and gender groups can vie for overall placement; and to provide an event atmosphere intended for participant enjoyment.
Distances
- 6 hour run as many miles as possible in six hours
- 12 hour run as many miles as possible in twelve hours
- 24 hour run as many miles as possible in twenty four hours
Course details note a 1.905 mile essentially flat loop on a lighted asphalt path circling Gray's Lake with downtown views. The loop is USATF certified #IA02004-MF.
Aid and facilities include one aid station stocked with water, soda, fruit, cookies, and soup for the 12 and 24 hour events. Volunteers staff the aid station but participants are advised not to rely solely on it. Indoor toilets will be available; showers will not. Space is available for tents but Friday night camping is not permitted.
Race shirts are provided to entrants who sign up on time and are present at the event. Awards based on actual distance plus the equalizer are given to the first ten places in each event and a separate award recognizes the longest actual distance in each event. The award ceremony follows race completion. Packet pickup occurs at the main tent on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
