Lyke Wake Walk - W E (guided and supported)
The Lyke Wake Walk is a long-distance crossing of the North York Moors, created in 1955 and designed to cross the moors at their widest and highest points. The organized guided crossing runs between Scarth Wood Moor, Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast, covering just under 39 miles across moorland within the North York Moors National Park. The traditional challenge is to reach the opposite marker within 24 hours; the guided groups generally take 15 to 18 hours to complete the route.
Each guided crossing is led by two guides so the group can be split by pace. Open group crossings have a maximum of 14 walkers and are typically 10 to 12. Participants are transferred by minibus to the opposite end before walking back along the route. The organiser provides water, sugar based snacks and blister plasters on route, and a small surprise gift at the finish.
Support for preparation includes a full kit list, a training schedule, free guided training walks on the North Yorks Moors, the coast and the Dales, and a WhatsApp group for each date where training tips are shared. Private group bookings are available. Entry fee is £140 per person with a £70 non refundable deposit; the remaining balance is due eight weeks prior to the walk.
