Lyke Wake Walk - E-W (guided/supported)
The Lyke Wake Walk was created in 1955 to cross the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The traditional route runs between Scarth Wood Moor, Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast. The original challenge covers about 40 miles of moorland in the North York Moors National Park; the organiser's guided route is just under 39 miles. There is no set path; the objective is to travel from one marker to the opposite marker within a maximum of 24 hours. Groups typically complete this guided route in 15 to 18 hours.
These are guided and supported crossings with two guides per group, allowing walkers to be split by pace. Open group crossings are limited to a maximum of 14 walkers and are generally 10 to 12. Support arrangements include minibus transfers to the opposite end of the walk, checkpoints, water, sugar based snacks and blister plasters. Participants are offered a full kit list and a training schedule, and a WhatsApp group is set up for each date to share training tips and group information. Free guided training walks on the North York Moors, the North Yorkshire coast and the Dales are offered separately. Entry for the guided crossing is charged at £140 with a £70 non refundable deposit; the remaining balance is due eight weeks before the walk.
