Lyke Wake Walk - W-E (guided/supported)
Created in 1955, the Lyke Wake Walk crosses the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The routed crossing runs between Scarth Wood Moor near Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast. The full route covered by this guided crossing is just under 39 miles and the original challenge allows completion in a maximum of 24 hours. Groups on this programme typically take 15 to 18 hours to complete the crossing.
This listing describes a guided and supported west to east crossing. Open group crossings are limited to a maximum of 14 walkers and are typically 10 to 12; two guides operate on each crossing so the group can be split according to pace. Private group bookings are available and support includes minibus transfer to the opposite end of the walk so participants walk back along the route.
Organisers are based in Stokesley, North Yorkshire, and provide pre-walk resources including a full kit list, a training schedule, and free guided training walks on local terrain. Each date has a WhatsApp group for training information and group communication. On the day the organisers supply water, sugar-based snacks, and blister plasters, and participants receive a small gift at the end. A second free attempt is offered if a first crossing is not completed; further attempts may be possible though transport may not be provided.
Entries open 19 June 2026 and close 15 April 2027. Entry fee is £140 per person with a £70 non-refundable deposit and the remainder due eight weeks before the walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
