Lyke Wake Walk W E (guided and supported)
The Lyke Wake Walk was created in 1955 to cross the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The guided route runs between Scarth Wood Moor near Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast and is just under 39 miles long. The original challenge requires walking from one marker to the opposite marker within a maximum of 24 hours.
A commercial team offers guided and supported crossings with a maximum of 14 walkers per open group, typically 10 to 12. Guides are qualified, hold first aid training and are insured. Support includes checkpoints, supplied water, sugar based snacks and blister plasters. A small finishing gift is provided to participants.
Organiser services include a full kit list, a training schedule and a WhatsApp group for each date where training tips and group information are shared. Free guided training walks are offered on the North York Moors, the North Yorkshire coast and the Dales. Transport is provided to place walkers at the opposite end before a crossing; transport availability for repeat attempts may be limited.
Entry administration includes a fee of £110 per person with a £50 non refundable deposit to secure a place and the remaining balance due six weeks prior. When an event is full new entries are placed on a waiting list and no payment is required until a place is offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
