Lyke Wake Walk - E-W (guided/supported)
The Lyke Wake Walk was created in 1955 and crosses the North York Moors at its widest and highest points. The route runs between Scarth Wood Moor, Osmotherley and Ravenscar on the North Sea coast and covers moorland within the North York Moors National Park. There is no set route; the challenge is to travel from one marker to the opposite marker within a maximum of 24 hours. The specific guided route for this crossing is just under 39 miles and groups generally take 15 to 18 hours to complete.
This is a guided and supported crossing led by local guides based in Stokesley. Guides are qualified, have first aid training and are insured. Open group crossings have a maximum of 14 walkers, typically 10 to 12, and private group bookings are available. Participants are transferred by minibus to the opposite end of the walk before walking back along the route.
Support for each crossing includes a full kit list and a training schedule, a WhatsApp group for each date, and free guided training walks on the North Yorks Moors, the North Yorkshire coast and the Dales. Organisers supply water, unlimited sugar based snacks, blister plasters and a small surprise gift at the end. Entry fee is £110 per person with a £50 non refundable deposit; the remaining balance is due six weeks before the walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
