Essex Walker

The Essex Walker is a long-distance walking and running event organized by the LDWA Essex and Herts Group. Starting from the Blackmore Village Hall, the course utilizes a figure-of-eight design that takes participants through the Essex countryside. The routes follow a network of footpaths and bridleways, passing through locations such as Fryerning, Wyatts Green, and Mountnessing.

Participants can choose from two distinct distances:

  • 26 miles
  • 18 miles

The 26-mile route follows the full figure-of-eight course, while the 18-mile option consists of the first loop plus an additional three miles. This event is a component of the Essex and Herts Triple Challenge, which also includes the Blackwater Marathon and the Herts Hobble.

The course features organized checkpoints, with two available on the long route and one on the short route. Entry fees include hot and cold drinks at the start, snacks and sandwiches at the checkpoints, and a meal provided at the finish. All finishers receive a certificate.

The event has a total entry limit of 200 participants, and registration must be completed in advance as there are no entries accepted on the day. The minimum age for entry is 16, and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are required to bring their own mug for drinks, and dogs are not permitted at this event.
