Ghost of the Miller's Boy Trail Run
The Ghost of the Miller’s Boy Trail Run is a 10km narrative midweek, night-time trail event around Thaxted that starts and finishes at The Maypole public house. The route is largely off road on footpaths, bridleways and tracks, with some short sections on quiet roads. Runners and walkers are welcome, and walkers are encouraged to opt for earlier start times if possible.
This is a self-navigation trail race. Participants receive a written route description on the day. There are no route markings, no marshals and no GPX files. The event is not a mass start and participants will be timed out and back in at the finish. Participants must carry a mobile phone and their own means of lighting and are responsible for navigating the course.
Entry fees are shown per participant: £12 for affiliated runners and £14 for non-affiliated runners, plus a 50p booking fee. Fees are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by the organisers. Each entry includes a drinks voucher from The Maypole with a maximum value of £4.50. All profits from the event will be donated to the ongoing restoration of John Webb’s Windmill, which is reported to have at least one ghost including that of the miller’s boy.
