2026 Lakeside Loop 5k & 10k

The event takes place on August 23 at Lake Artemesia in College Park, Maryland (5211 Campus Dr). Points from the races count toward the Year-Long 5k, 10k, and Back of the Pack Series and also toward the Summer Series. A virtual run option is available.

The course runs on paved trail through woods, around the outside of a runway, over creeks, and around the outskirts of Lake Artemesia. The route is described as fairly flat and scenic. The 10k follows two laps of the 5k route.

  • 5 km - one lap of the Lakeside Loop.
  • 10 km - two laps of the 5k route.

Aid and facilities include three water stations on the 10k course at approximately mile markers 1.6, 3.1, and 4.7; the 5k has one water station near mile 1.6. Gatorade is available at some water stations. Portajohns are located near the start and finish, and park restrooms are also available.

Participants receive a finisher's medal, a technical (Drifit) event shirt, and chip timing. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations before August 12; sizes for race-day registrants are not guaranteed. Packet pickup is available at the event and arriving about one hour before the event is recommended for check-in. Race day registration is offered.

The event benefits DC Peace Team, whose work includes community engagement, unarmed civilian protection and accompaniment, restorative justice circles, anti-racism, and nonviolent skills training. Awards are given to the top three men and women overall and to 1st and 2nd place in age groups 19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Top three overall finishers are not eligible to also win age-group awards.

Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Runner tracking via SMS is available during registration. The organizer does not allow banditing; violators may be removed or disqualified. The event is held in all weather unless officials cancel, delay, or change the event; registered participants will be notified by email of any changes.
