Lake District Ultra Challenge
The Lake District Ultra Challenge is a multi-distance trail event held in the Southern Lake District with basecamp in Kendal on 6 to 7 June 2026. The event includes a full continuous loop of approximately 100 km with about 2500 m of ascent, and alternative formats spread over one or two days.
Distances available:
- 100 km full Kendal loop, ~2500 m climb
- 50 km first or second half, ~1200–1300 m climb
- 42 km Lakes Marathon, ~1200 m climb
- 29 km quarter route, ~900 m climb
- 10 km Ambleside loop, ~350 m climb
Routes pass Garburn Pass, Ambleside and a halfway area beside Lake Windermere, plus forests and nature reserves. The organiser provides regular covered rest stops at roughly 12.5 km intervals, with meals or snacks approximately every 25 km, hot and cold drinks, medical and massage teams, and a timing system that records progress at stops. The route is fully signed with waymarkers and supported by a GPS tracking app.
Overnight options include camping packages and YMCA or hostel accommodation at the halfway point. There are dedicated categories for walkers aiming to complete set time targets and a new Trailblazerz category for faster competitive runners. Shuttle transfers and parking are available, and finishers receive a medal, t-shirt, finisher meal and a finish-line photograph. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
