Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force 14th Annual 5K Walk/Run for Awareness and Suicide Prevention
This event is a 5K walk/run held at the College of Lake County on September 26, 2026. It includes both in-person and online participation; recent years have included walkers and runners from multiple states and organizers reported a record number of participants last year.
The event includes a welcome and kickoff presented in person and on Facebook Live, a resource fair with information and giveaways from partner organizations, and a memorial component called "Why We Walk" that will feature poster boards and a slideshow of tributes displayed on a large video screen. Memorial submissions may include a name, years of birth and death, a short tribute, an optional signature line, and an optional photo; submission requires logging into a Google account.
Registration fees include an event t-shirt and access to the resource fair. Fees are listed as $30 for adults, $10 for children ages 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and under. Team pricing applies: teams of five or more reduce the fee to $25 for the fifth and subsequent registrants, which effectively gives earlier team members a $5 refund. Organizers also offer a team competition and a bronze sponsorship option for an additional $100 to list a team name on event materials.
T-shirt pickup is available in advance via a drive-thru event and on the day of the walk. All proceeds support the Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force, a 501(c)(3) organization that funds outreach, training, and community education on suicide prevention and mental health awareness in Lake County.
