The course is marked with ribbon about every 200 yards and color coded by loop. Polka-dot flagging indicates turns and will appear before and on the same side as the required turn. Blue ribbons mark wrong ways. If a runner does not see their color flagging for three to four minutes, they are likely off course and should retrace to the marked route.
Elevation gain varies by distance from about 380 feet for the 8K up to about 3,280 feet for the 50K. Course surfaces include single track, dirt road, and asphalt with varying proportions by distance. Fully stocked aid stations appear every four to five miles with fresh fruit, salty snacks, candy, water, and Skratch electrolyte drink. Runners are advised to carry at least 20 ounces of water between aid stations. The event is cupless; runners should bring their own fluid container. Drop bags are allowed for the 30K, marathon, and 50K at the start and finish. No dogs are allowed on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
