Krispy Kreme Challenge

The Krispy Kreme Challenge is a student run, charity based race that supports the mission of the North Carolina Children's Hospital. The event combines running with a food challenge, asking participants to eat a dozen doughnuts as part of the course.

The standard event distance is five miles. In the in-person format runners travel from the NC State University bell tower to the nearest Krispy Kreme, eat twelve doughnuts, and return, covering roughly 2.5 miles each way. A virtual option allows participants to complete the challenge from anywhere.

The event offers several entry categories: Challenger, Casual, and No Doughnut for individuals, plus Challenger Team, Casual Team, and No Doughnut Team for groups. Challenger competitors are eligible for awards if they consume all twelve doughnuts and finish in under one hour; there is no penalty if a registered Challenger does not complete the eating requirement. Challenger Teams must include six runners to be eligible for awards. Casual participants may eat as many or as few doughnuts as they wish. No Doughnut entrants receive a distinct bib so volunteers do not give them doughnuts. All registered runners pay the same fee, start at the same time, and receive a race t shirt.
