About the race
Willow Spring High School hosts a Thanksgiving Day running event at the school track in Fuquay Varina, NC (1704 Old Honeycutt Rd., 27526) on 11/26/2026. The main course is a USATF certified 5K that starts and finishes on the school track and includes a loop around campus, along the Park-Depot Greenway Trail, and through the South Lakes neighborhood. All finishers receive a medal.
The program includes separate race options for different ages and groups:
- 5K Competitive Run with a 30 minute maximum time limit.
- 5K Family Fun Run that allows walkers, runners, and strollers; pets are not allowed.
- 400 m Kids Fun Run for children 9 and under.
- 50 m Diaper Dash for children 4 and under.
The Competitive 5K offers overall awards for the top three finishers and age group awards for the top two in each group; awards are presented after that race. A course record holder receives a free entry. A commemorative T-shirt can be added for the Kids Fun Run and Diaper Dash for an additional fee of $15. Registration opens on 2026-08-21 and closes on 2026-09-25; event registration fees vary by race. Proceeds benefit the Willow Spring High School cross country and track teams. The Kids Fun Run and Diaper Dash take place on the school track. A costume contest for the Family Fun Run is judged during the race with a trophy awarded.
