Kettlebell Kountdown

Kettlebell Kountdown is a 50K elimination race on October 10, 2026, held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The competition consists of a clearly marked one-mile loop repeated 31 times, totaling 31 miles (a 50K). Runners who complete lap 31 receive an official finisher medal.

Each lap must be completed while carrying a 20-pound kettlebell. Organizers supply the kettlebells and personal kettlebells are not allowed. At least one hand must remain in contact with the kettlebell at all times. Prohibited methods include using ropes, chains, bags, attachments to clothing or gear, and throwing the kettlebell. A kettlebell may be rested on the ground during a lap but may not be advanced without picking it up. Gloves are permitted provided they are not attached to the kettlebell.

The event uses a lap time limit format. Time limits apply to each one-mile lap and decrease as the competition progresses. Failure to complete a lap within its time limit results in elimination; eliminated runners are removed from the course and must return their kettlebell. There is no time limit for the final lap; if multiple runners begin the final lap, the fastest completion of that lap determines the top finishers.

There are two divisions, male and female. The top three finishers in each division receive custom kettlebell trophies of 20 lb, 15 lb, and 10 lb respectively. Runners receive a custom t-shirt at packet pickup. Race day packet pickup is at the Lakeside Pavilion near the south trailhead parking inside the park and requires photo identification; there is no early packet pickup.

Crews may set up tents and personal aid stations in the start/finish area and may assist runners between laps. Crews and pacers are not allowed on the one-mile course. Organizers will provide water and light snacks during the competition, but each runner is responsible for their own aid. All participants must be 18 years or older. No refunds are offered, though entries may be transferred through the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
