Kettlebell Kountdown : October 10, 2026
Kettlebell Kountdown is an elimination endurance event held at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. The competition consists of repeating a marked one-mile loop while carrying a 20 pound kettlebell; the total competition distance is 31 miles, equal to a 50K, with the 31st lap deciding official finishers and awards.
Runners must carry the provided kettlebell by hand for each loop. At least one hand must remain in contact with the kettlebell at all times. The kettlebell may be carried in either arm, rested on a shoulder, chest, or upper back while held, or set briefly on the ground but must be picked up to continue. Use of ropes, chains, bags, attachments, or throwing the kettlebell is prohibited. Gloves are allowed if they are not attached to the kettlebell.
The competition uses sequential one-mile laps with decreasing time limits; failure to complete a lap within its time limit results in elimination and immediate removal from the course. No pacers are allowed on the course; crew support and aid are permitted only in the start/finish area. All participants must be 18 or older.
Organizers provide kettlebells and a custom t shirt at race day packet pickup at the Lakeside Pavilion near the south trailhead parking lot. There is no early packet pickup. The event is rain or shine and may require a headlamp for later laps. No refunds are offered, but entries may be transferred through the organizer. Top three finishers in each division receive custom kettlebell awards of 20 lb, 15 lb, and 10 lb. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
