Isle of Wight Half Marathon
Organized by Ryde Harriers, the Isle of Wight Half Marathon is a road and trail race that has been part of the island's running history since the club's inception in 1886. The event is operated under UKA rules and features an entry limit of 300 participants.
The event consists of a single distance:
- Half Marathon
The Half Marathon course is undulating and follows a two-lap design. The route traverses several areas including Ryde, Nettlestone, and St. Helens. While primarily on road surfaces, the course includes off-tarmac gravel tracks at Attrill’s Lane and a bridleway section through Whitefield Woods. Due to these off-road segments, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Mile markers are positioned along the route, and water stations are provided at intervals of approximately 3 miles.
The Race HQ is situated at the Ryde Rowing Club on the eastern end of Ryde Esplanade. This location is approximately a 20-minute walk from the pier where passenger ferries arrive. Facilities at the venue include changing areas, showers, and secure bag storage. A official finish time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes is in effect. For safety reasons, runners may not participate with dogs, and the use of in-ear or over-ear headphones is prohibited, though bone-conducting headphones are permitted.
Awards are presented to overall winners and various age categories, ranging from under-20 to over-80. All participants who finish the race receive a souvenir. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
