Event Overview

The West Wight 3 Hills is a multi-terrain running event organized by Ryde Harriers. The course covers 8 miles in a single scenic lap that begins and ends at Freshwater. The route features undulating and hilly terrain with approximately 900 feet of total ascent. Due to the presence of stiles and the nature of the terrain, the course is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Course and Participation

The route passes through several landmarks, including Golden Hill Fort, Headon Warren, Alum Bay, Highdown, Tennyson Down, and Freshwater Bay. Participation is open to runners aged 16 and over. There is a strict finish time limit of 2 hours, maintaining a pace of at least 15 minutes per mile; the event is not intended for walkers. For safety purposes, the use of in-ear or over-ear headphones is prohibited, though bone-conducting headphones are permitted. Running with dogs is not allowed.

Logistics and Facilities

Race headquarters are located at the West Wight Sports Centre in Freshwater. Participants have access to changing and shower facilities at the venue. Pay and display parking is available at the sports centre, with some free on-street parking in the vicinity. The location is situated within three miles of the Wightlink ferry terminal in Yarmouth.
