Event Overview
The Isle of Bute Triathlon takes place on Sunday, May 10. It offers Sprint and Novice distances and is described as a small, popular, and well-established event.
Distances & Format
The event features two chip-timed triathlon distances:
- Sprint: A 750 m pool swim, a 20 km cycle on quiet country roads, and a 5 km run.
- Novice: A 400 m pool swim, a 13 km cycle on the same route, and a 2.5 km run.
The swims are conducted in waves in a pool, with caps provided. The cycle route is described as hilly and is an out-and-back course with marshals. The run course uses mixed terrain including road, gravel, and track. The event operates under Triathlon Scotland rules.
Event Details
The event headquarters is Rothesay Leisure Centre, a ten-minute walk from the ferry terminal. Participants can arrive via ferry from Wemyss Bay or Colintraive.
Registration opens in the morning. Participants are issued an electronic chip, swimming cap, race number, and course information. Safety rules include mandatory helmets and no drafting on the cycle route.
After the race, a buffet is provided and a prize-giving is held. Medals are awarded in each category, with overall prizes for male and female winners. All participants receive a memento. Results are posted online within 24 hours.
