Kintyre Way Ultra

The Kintyre Way Ultra is a set of trail races run on sections of the Kintyre Way in Scotland. The route features varied terrain including hill paths, forestry tracks, beaches, seaside rocks, bluebell woods and gorse fields. Runners may see views across the sea to Arran, Islay, Jura and Gigha at times, and to Ailsa Craig and Northern Ireland from the southern section.

The event has evolved over time. Early editions included a long 67 mile course and a shorter 35 mile option. The full Kintyre Way measures 100 miles and the race now typically uses one third of the route in a given year, for example Tayinloan to Tarbert, Tayinloan to Campbeltown or Machrihanish to Campbeltown. There is also an option to run in a relay team of three over the two northern sections or two over the southern section.

Race features include clear waymarking with pale blue posts and distance markers at one mile intervals, additional signage or marshals where needed, refreshments, massage and showers at the finish, drop-bag and rucksack transfer services, extra water stations between checkpoints, and timing with GPS tracking by KitST, signal permitting. Profits from the race support maintenance of the Kintyre Way. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
