Kintyre Way Ultra

The Kintyre Way Ultra is a trail running event that uses sections of the Kintyre Way, a long distance path in Scotland. The route includes hill paths, forestry tracks, beaches and seaside rocks, bluebell woods and gorse fields, with views across the sea to Arran, Islay, Jura and Gigha and, from the southern section, Ailsa Craig and Northern Ireland.

In 2027 the event runs from Tayinloan to Tarbert on Saturday 8 May. The race has evolved from earlier longer routes and currently offers shorter ultra options and relay formats. There is an option to compete in a relay team of three over the two northern sections or two over the southern section.

Distances:

  • 35 miles shorter option from Tayinloan
  • 100 miles total length of the Kintyre Way route

Course and support features are fully waymarked with pale blue posts and distance markers at 1 mile intervals, with additional signs or marshals where needed. Finish facilities include refreshments, massage and showers. Logistics features include drop-bag transfer to checkpoints, rucksack transfer to the finish and additional water stations between checkpoints. Timing is provided by KitST with GPS tracking where signal permits. Annual profits are used to support maintenance of the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
