Iron Horse Half Marathon
The Iron Horse Half Marathon is a USATF certified, point to point half marathon held near North Bend, Washington. The traditional course follows sections of the Palouse to Cascades Trail and the Snoqualmie Valley Trail, which are former railroad corridors, and covers 13.1 miles with an approximate elevation loss of 880 feet (start near 1300 ft, finish near 400 ft). The surface is unpaved hard packed dirt with a few road crossings; regular road running shoes are recommended.
Important for 2026: damage to the Iron Horse trail from December floods means events will not be held on the damaged sections for 2026. The course will be re-routed and details will be provided when finalized.
On-course support includes five aid stations offering Tailwind electrolytes and GU gels, spaced roughly 2 to 3 miles apart. Orca Running operates the event as cupless racing and recommends runners carry a handheld bottle, hydration pack, or a small reusable cup. Shuttle service runs from the finish to the start on race morning and finish line parking is located at Meadowbrook Farm in North Bend. The event provides free gear check at the start and age group awards in five year increments. Overall awards for top three male, female, and non-binary finishers are based on gun time and must be claimed at the race.
