Event Overview
The Independence Day 5K is a July 4th event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It is the 17th annual edition. The event encourages a patriotic theme, with participants often dressing in red, white, and blue or in costume.
Location
The event starts and finishes at the Grand Park Lake Courtyard on Farrow Parkway, at the corner of Nevers Street and Farrow Parkway.
Events
The event offers three different activities:
- Independence Day 5K Run/Walk
- Uncle Sam's 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk
- Stars and Stripes Kids' Dash (50 yards) - this event is free.
Course & Rules
The 5K course is USATF certified. The event states there is no water stop on the course. Both runners and walkers are allowed. For safety, animals and wheeled devices like baby strollers, skateboards, and bicycles are not permitted on the race course.
Registration & Packet Pickup
Registration is only available online and closes on July 4 at 5:00 AM. Packet pickup is available at two locations: at Native Sons on July 2, and at the Grand Park Lake courtyard on the morning of the event.
Amenities & Awards
Free parking is available in the Farrow Parking Garage and along side streets in the Market Common area. Portable restrooms will be in the courtyard.
Participants in the 5K and 1 Mile events receive a participant shirt, while supplies last, and a finisher's medal. All participants receive a race bib. The free Kids' Dash includes a finisher gift, with an option to purchase a shirt.
Awards are given for the 5K event. These include overall, masters, and age group awards for men and women. The top overall male and female finishers each receive a pair of shoes. There are no awards for the 1 Mile or Kids' Dash events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
