ICY-8 Spotsylvania Courthouse
The 18th annual ICY-8 is a trail running event held at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The event uses looped courses on a figure 8 layout and offers three main formats: an 8 hour adventure, a Half Marathon+, and an 8 mile option. The start and finish are centralized in the parking area next to the Lake Anna Visitor Center.
Approximately 90% of the course is trail with the remaining 10% (about 0.4 miles) on a mix of trail and closed paved roads. Trails include both single-track and double-track sections; over 70% of the route is double-track and is generally about 6 ft wide. Looped courses allow participants to combine loops to increase mileage.
Loop definitions and notable rules:
- 8.0 miles : long loop, about 640 ft elevation gain and loss.
- 4.7 miles : short loop, about 350 ft elevation gain and loss.
- ~1.5 miles : final loop, about 100 ft elevation gain and loss.
The Half Marathon+ requires completing the long, short, and final loops in that order and participants must check in at the start/finish after each loop; there is a six hour limit to complete the Half Marathon+ distance. The 8 mile option requires runners to carry hydration and roughly 200 to 300 calories. Runners and hikers are welcome. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
