ICY-8 at Lake Anna State Park, Spotsylvania VA
ICY-8 is a looped trail event organized by Athletic Equation Trail Series at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, VA. The 2027 edition introduces two new distances: Half Marathon Plus and an eight mile option, and continues the event's 8-hour trail option. The event uses a figure-8 loop format with centralized start and finish in the parking area next to the Lake Anna Visitor Center.
Approximately 90% of the course is trail and about 10% is a mix of trail and closed paved sections, totaling roughly 0.4 miles. Over 70% of the trails are double-track, generally about six feet wide. Loop definitions and elevation changes are provided for planning: the long loop is about 8.0 miles with 640 feet of elevation change, the medium loop is about 4.7 miles with 350 feet, and a short final loop is about 1.5 miles with 100 feet.
The Half Marathon Plus requires completing the loops from largest to smallest, with runners checking in at the start/finish after each loop and a six hour time limit to complete that distance. The eight mile format is a single long loop and includes an approximate 640 feet of vertical change; participants on that option must carry hydration and about 200 to 300 calories for safety.
