Event Overview
This event is part of the Hudson Valley Triathlon Club Summer Tri Series, celebrating its 24th year. It is a USAT-sanctioned super sprint triathlon. The distances for the main triathlon are a 400m swim, a 12-mile bike, and a 2-mile run. An AquaBike option is available for individuals, but not for relay teams. Relay teams of 2 or 3 members can also participate.
Course Details
The swim is a 400m triangular course in a mountain stream-fed lake, with an on-shore start. Wetsuits are legal but not required, and personal swim buoys are allowed. Certified lifeguard kayak support is provided.
The bike course is described as hilly, consists of all right-hand turns, and is not closed to traffic. A SAG vehicle is on course, but there is no aid station on the bike route; one aid station is available in the transition area.
The run course is a bumpy 2-mile route held entirely within Kenneth L. Wilson State Park. Aid stations are located in the transition area and at the turn-around point, stocked with Hammer Nutrition products and water.
Location & Logistics
The event takes place at Kenneth L. Wilson State Park near Woodstock, New York. Parking is described as abundant and on-site. There is a $7 fee to enter the park for those without a New York State Empire Pass. Dogs are not allowed in the day-use area of the park. The organizers advise against using GPS for the park address and provide specific driving directions due to limited cell service in the area.
Series & Awards
This is the second race in a three-race series. Participants can register for individual races or the entire series, with a discount offered for registering for all three at once. Points are earned at each race, with the top five male and female champions honored at the end of the season. Awards are given for the top three overall male and female finishers in the triathlon, AquaBike, and paratriathlon categories, as well as for relay teams. Age group awards span from 19 & under to 80+.
Participant Information
The event is noted for having no cut-off times. Paratriathletes are welcome. Post-race amenities include finisher medals, race t-shirts (guaranteed if registered one month prior), beer from a sponsor (for those 21+), and a picnic potluck where participants are encouraged to bring a dish. The event is held rain or shine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
