Hillbilly Hike Half Marathon, 10k, & Greubel Memorial 5k

This event on the Summerset Trail near Carlisle, Iowa, includes a half marathon, a 10k, a Greubel Memorial 5k, and a virtual race. The half and 10k are point-to-point courses with bus transportation provided from Carlisle to the start areas. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Thrive church Mission Team; proceeds from the Greubel Memorial 5k support college savings plans for three children who lost their parents.

Race services include chip timing, ring spun shirts, custom die cast medals for all finishers, trophies for top overall finishers, and age-division awards. Packet pick-up and walk-up registration are available on the days before and the day of the event. Participants may park at Carlisle High School and other nearby lots; buses transport runners to the half and 10k start locations and return to the Carlisle finish.

Course and site details note a largely flat route with a gentle downhill at the half marathon start and restroom access along the course and at start and finish areas. The finish area in Carlisle offers music and a variety of postrace refreshments such as pie, biscuits and gravy, and chocolate milk, served by volunteers. A staffed bag drop called Hillbilly Bag Drop collects and returns participant bags to the finish and maintains a lost and found by bib number.
