The Des Moines Turkey Trot

The Des Moines Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day running event in downtown Des Moines centered at 208 Court Ave in the Court Ave Entertainment District. The course routes runners across the Des Moines River and through the Historic East Village, passes around the State Capitol Complex, and returns into the heart of downtown.

Both a 5K and a 5-mile route start from the same area; at approximately 2.5 miles runners may choose to finish the 5K course or continue on to complete the 5-mile course. Athlete times and results are automatically updated based on the route completed. Five-mile participants follow an extended course that includes a scenic section to the Botanical Center and a crossing of the Women’s Achievement Bridge before finishing downtown.

The event also includes a Tot Trot for young children and a virtual 3.1 mile option, plus a Family of 4 entry. Registration fees on the source event listings vary by entry type, ranging from $15 for the Tot Trot up to $150 for the family entry.
