Heart and Soul 5K
The Heart and Soul 5K takes place in Howell, Michigan, utilizing the Howell High School campus. The event features a 5k running race on a flat, paved course that begins and ends on the school track and football field. This layout is designed to be accessible for runners, walkers, and wheeled athletes.
Proceeds from the event support Ainsley's Angels Michigan and Livingston County Special Olympics. These organizations provide sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities, as well as specialized racing equipment to ensure people of all abilities can participate in endurance events. Neither charity charges their athletes for participation, relying instead on donations and fundraising efforts to cover costs for uniforms, facility rentals, and racing chairs.
Participants receive chip timing and access to post-race snacks. The event includes swag for those who enter, and a raffle is held where all participants are eligible for various prizes. Specific awards are designated for the overall male and female winners. Strollers and service animals are permitted on the course, though other pets are not allowed.
