Hybrid Strength and Endurance Competition
The DefiPlate Games is a hybrid sports competition held at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Michigan. This event combines maximal strength with cardiovascular endurance, requiring participants to compete in two distinct disciplines. The competition is limited to 80 athletes and features divisions for open men, open women, and masters categories for those aged 55 and older.
The first portion of the event is a deficit deadlift. Competitors use a 29 mm stiff power bar with specialized plates that enforce a 4-inch deficit. Each athlete has three attempts to establish their maximum lift, with a minimum of 10 lb increases between rounds. Strict rules apply to the lifting form, including a requirement to lower the bar under control upon receiving the official command.
The second portion is a 5K run. The course is a USATF-measured 5,000 m loop within the park grounds. This segment utilizes chip timing and a mass start format. Participants must complete the distance under their own power without the use of pacers or outside assistance.
Scoring for the overall rankings is based on a balanced system where both the deadlift and the run contribute equally to the final result. Points are awarded based on placement in each individual event. This format is designed to reward athletes who demonstrate proficiency in both strength and speed rather than specialization in a single area.
