Multisport Event at Island Lake State Recreation Area
The Island Lake Triathlon, Duathlon, and Aquabike take place at the Island Lake State Recreation Area in Brighton, Michigan. Located within a 4,000-acre park in Livingston County, the venue features a landscape of open brush land, mature hardwood forests, and open meadows. The course utilizes paved roads with rolling hills that weave through the park grounds.
Participants compete in the waters of Kent Lake for the swimming portion, followed by a cycling segment on tree-lined hills and a run that concludes at a lakeside finish line. This event is a USA Triathlon Official Sanctioned Event and follows a zero-waste, "Leave No Trace" policy involving recycling and composting efforts.
Available distances and event types include:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run
- Sprint Triathlon: 800m swim, 12-mile bike, 3.1-mile run
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 400m swim, 12-mile bike, 1.5-mile run
- Olympic Aquabike: 1500m swim, 40k bike
- Sprint Duathlon: 1.5-mile run, 12-mile bike, 3.1-mile run
- Olympic and Sprint Relays: Team options for triathlon distances
- Open Water Swims: Timed practice sessions of 1 mile, 800m, or 400m
For the open water swim sessions, all participants are required to wear a swim buoy for identification. Post-event activities include food such as pancakes and breakfast burritos provided for participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
