GWTC Pine Run 20K at Tall Timbers
- 20K trail run on mixed grassy trails and double-track jeep roads
- 14K ruck course for participants carrying weight on their back
The event takes place at Tall Timbers Research Station, 13093 Henry Beadel Drive, Tallahassee, FL. The main 20K course starts and finishes near the Beadel House and runs counter-clockwise in an oblong loop. The route follows undulating, grassy trails and double-track jeep roads through pine uplands and Lake Iamonia bottomland.
The course is marked with pink flags and has water and Gatorade stations roughly every 2 to 3 miles. For the 20K, aid appears near miles 3, 6, 9, and 11; the route includes a short out-and-back near mile 5, a repeated section around miles 8 to 10, and a distinctive section known as "the boot" before returning toward the main gravel road. Ruckers on the 14K follow a very similar route but skip the out-and-back, the repeated section, and the boot; their aid stations are roughly at miles 3, 5.5, and 7.5.
Both events have a three-hour cutoff to complete the course. Registration is online only, with different fees and shirt options for members and nonmembers; race day registration is available and bib pickup is offered near the start as well as a pre-race pickup location at REI Co-op, 1415 Timberlane Rd #201, Tallahassee. There are water coolers and port-a-lets at the start, post-race music and refreshments, and awards for top finishers in overall, age, and ruck categories.
