Great Western Half Marathon & 10K
The Great Western Half Marathon and 10K are organized by Fox River Trail Runners. The races use the western portion of the Great Western Trail and follow a flat, out and back course surfaced with limestone. The event continues a club tradition of more than 25 years of hosting this half marathon and 10K.
The trail has a rails to trails history: the Chicago Great Western Railway operated from 1885 to 1968, and the corridor has been a public use path since 1978. Results are recorded for recent years, including 2026.
Fox River Trail Runners donates five dollars per participant registration and accepts additional participant donations. Those funds are split equally among three local nonprofit mental health partners. In 2026 the combination of participant donations and the club contribution generated a total of $2,400 for the three local mental health charities. The organizer is a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation based in Geneva, Illinois.
