Great Western Half Marathon and 10K
Fox River Trail Runners organizes the Great Western Half Marathon and 10K, a flat out and back road race held on the western portion of the Great Western Trail. The club has more than 25 years of history running and managing this event.

The course runs on a limestone surface and follows a rails to trails corridor. The route occupies the former Chicago Great Western Railway corridor, which operated from 1885 to 1968, and has been a public use path since 1978. Results for 2026, 2025 and prior years are posted online.
Fox River Trail Runners donates five dollars per participant registration, and participant donations above registration fees are also collected. Those funds are split equally among three local non-profit mental health charity partners. In 2026, the club's per registrant donations combined with participant contributions produced a total donation of $2,400 for the three charities.
