Grove Express 5K
The Grove Express 5K is an annual Thanksgiving morning run and walk hosted by the Grove Express Foundation in downtown Downers Grove. The course starts at Main and Grove Streets and is certified by USA Track and Field. The event offers a 5K distance for runners and walkers and posts photos and results from past years.
The Grove Express Foundation organizes the event to raise funds for education and youth programs that benefit Elementary School District 58 and Community District 99 high schools, including Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South. The foundation was formed in 2021 by three local organizations to continue the Thanksgiving Day tradition and now operates as a 501(c)(3) organization.
Logistics and race day provisions are shared in advance when available. Race packet pick up details are to be determined. Organizers encourage participants to walk, bike, or use ride share options because parking will be in high demand. Designated parking areas include the Commuter Lots north and south of the BNSF tracks, the Library Parking Lot, Village Hall at 850 Curtiss Street, and the Parking Deck; on-street parking is available outside the race course.
Streets along the course close to traffic on race day. Specific road and railroad crossing closures and temporary Parking Deck access rules are posted by organizers and may begin early on race morning. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
