Grove Express 5K
The Grove Express is an annual 5K run/walk held on Thanksgiving Day in downtown Downers Grove. The course starts at Main and Grove Streets and follows a USA Track and Field certified route through the Village.
The event is hosted by the Grove Express Foundation, a 501(c)(3) created in 2021 by three local organizations. Proceeds support education and youth programs that benefit Elementary School District 58 and Community District 99 high schools, including Downers Grove North and Downers Grove South. The foundation’s mission focuses on investing in education, youth initiatives, and scholarships.
Race logistics note that packet pick-up details are to be determined. Participants are encouraged to walk, bike, or use ride share because parking will be in high demand. Designated parking areas include the Commuter Lots north and south of the BNSF tracks, the Library Parking Lot, Village Hall at 850 Curtiss Street, and the Parking Deck. On-street parking is available outside the race course.
Race day street closures and parking access are announced in advance. Streets along the course begin closing as early as 6:15 am. Main Street and several railroad crossings will close to vehicular traffic by 7:00 am; one crossing at Maple Avenue will remain open. The Parking Deck has restricted access windows on race morning. The event posts race photos and past results from previous years. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
