Event Overview
The Great South Bay Run is an annual athletic event held in Bay Shore, New York. The 41st edition of this event features several USATF certified courses that take participants through the residential streets of Bay Shore and Brightwaters. All physical races begin and end at the Town of Islip Bay Shore Marina Park.
Participants can choose from a variety of distances:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 10K Run/Walk
- 5K Run/Walk
- 5K Jogging Stroller Run/Walk
- Virtual Mile Challenge
Course Details
The routes pass through the historic downtown area of Bay Shore. Runners will see local landmarks including the residential homes near the Brightwaters Lakes, Cascades, and Canal. The final sections of the course offer views of Fire Island and the Great South Bay.
For the 13.1 mile distance, specific pace requirements are in effect. Athletes must maintain a pace of at least 14 minutes per mile. There is a time cut-off point at mile 5.5, located at Main Street and South Clinton Ave. Participants who do not reach this landmark within one hour and 15 minutes of the start will be redirected to the finish line to complete the 10K course instead.
Participation Information
The event includes a dedicated category for those pushing jogging strollers in the 5K distance, with the requirement that these participants start at the back of the field. This specific category is not competitive and does not offer awards. For those unable to attend in person, a virtual mile challenge is also available.
