Go for the Green 5K Run/Walk
The Go for the Green 5K Run/Walk is an annual community event held in Smithtown, New York. Organized by the Rotary Club of Smithtown, the event directs all proceeds toward local charities and scholarships. The race takes place rain or shine, starting and finishing at Smithtown Elementary School.
Participants can choose from two different distances:
- 5 km Run/Walk
- 1 mile Family Fun Run/Walk
The 5 km course is USATF certified and follows a relatively flat route through residential streets. The course is police-controlled and features water stops and mile splits for participants. Registration for the 5 km includes a timed bib, which can be personalized with the participant's name if registered three weeks in advance. The 1 mile Family Fun Run is untimed and designed for families.
The event offers several amenities, including t-shirts for the first 300 registrants and professional race announcing. Post-race activities feature refreshments, bakery items, and a raffle. Participants who present their race number at Napper Tandy's Irish Pub on race day are eligible for one complimentary drink. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in various age groups ranging from 12 and under to over 80. All participants in the 1 mile run receive ribbons.
Pre-race bib pickup is available the day before the event at Smithtown Running Company, or on the morning of the race at the school. Participants have the option to join or create teams during the registration process. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
