Girls on the Run North 5K : Newark, NJ
The Girls on the Run North 5K is a season-closing celebratory event held at Branch Brook Park, Northern Division, Newark NJ, with the park entrance near the Ballantine Gates at 257–259 Ballantine Parkway. The event is rain or shine and is organized as a self-timed 5K (3.1 miles).
Program participants of all abilities take part in a closing 5K that aims to give them a tangible sense of accomplishment. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal. Participants are encouraged to complete the course with a 5K buddy : an individual designated to accompany a participant for the entire route. Family, friends, and community members may also take part if they register.
Logistics note that parking is limited along the one-way Branch Brook Park loop road; free parking is available along the park drive loop and in a small lot at the north end of the soccer fields. An Athlete's Village and GOTR Festival areas are provided for teams to gather and meet coaches. The council provides water stations, an appreciation station, music, merchandise, and accessible provisions so participants can walk, run, push, or roll at their own pace. Volunteers support event operations and safety measures include bibs for identification, course monitoring, head counts, and a council safety plan.
