Girls on the Run New Jersey East North 5K
The North 5K is a season-closing celebratory event for Girls on the Run New Jersey East serving Essex, Morris and Union counties. The course is a standard 5K distance of 3.1 miles and takes place at Branch Brook Park, Northern Division, between Bloomfield Avenue and Heller Parkway; the park entrance near the GOTR village is the Ballantine Gates at 257-259 Ballantine Parkway, Newark NJ 07104. The event is held rain or shine.
The event format includes a festival atmosphere with teams meeting by county flags, a pre-race program, and on-course support such as water stations and an appreciation station. Amenities listed for the 5K include face gems, music and a merchandise booth selling items to support the council. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal. Program participants are pre-registered and do not need to register again; family members and community participants may register to join.
Safety and accessibility measures are provided for all participants. Every participant must wear a race bib, councils assign a 5K buddy to accompany participants on the course, designated parking spots are available, and staff and volunteers follow a council safety plan that includes course monitoring and head counts.
