Charity and fundraising
The event supports the Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF) and fundraising is part of the event. Over the past five years the run has contributed $330,000 to elephant conservation in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley. ZEF’s stated focuses include supporting rangers with equipment, family rations and vehicle support, and community work such as wildlife awareness and an educational virtual reality project in schools. Donation options are listed with example amounts tied to specific needs, for example $1,000 to keep an anti-poaching Land Cruiser operational for one month, $500 to equip a ranger for patrols, $250 for the virtual reality project, and $100 to feed rangers’ families for a month.
