About the race
The 12th Annual Saving the Elephants Run/Walk takes place in Central Park, New York. This event supports the Zambezi Elephant Fund (ZEF), an organization dedicated to elephant conservation in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi Valley. Funds raised contribute to anti-poaching efforts, including equipment and rations for rangers, as well as educational programs for local communities.
Participants can choose from several event distances and formats:
- 5 km Run/Walk
- 10 km Run/Walk
- Virtual 5 km
- Virtual 10 km
The in-person races are held at the Naumburg Bandshell. The 5 km course is USATF certified, and there is one water station available along the route and at the finish line. Public bathrooms are located under the walkway between the bandshell and the Bethesda Fountain. Digital timing is provided, with live online results and finish line photographs available on the same day.
Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers in both the 5 km and 10 km categories. Registrants who sign up at least three weeks before the event receive a personalized race number. The first 300 individuals to register receive an event t-shirt. Virtual participants may complete their distance between November 8 and November 16 and upload their times manually. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
