Northern 5K Celebration - Wilmington
The Northern 5K Celebration is a season-ending 5K for Girls on the Run Delaware program participants and community members. The event takes place on Saturday, April 25 at Rockford Park in Wilmington. The 5K distance is 3.1 miles and the event is presented as a celebratory, noncompetitive experience that gives participants a tangible sense of accomplishment.
Every program participant receives a commemorative medal. Program participants and coaches are pre-registered and do not need additional registration. Community members, family and friends may also participate but must register; registration fees listed include $25 for participants aged nine and above and $5 for participants aged eight and under. All registrations include liability waivers.
Safety and accessibility measures are in place. Every participant must wear a race bib, each participant is assigned a running buddy for the full course, and the council monitors the course with a safety plan that trains staff and volunteers to respond to incidents. The course is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking spots are available.
The event includes additional activities such as music, dancing, happy hair stations and a merchandise booth. Maps are provided for parking, the 5K course and the GOTR village. Volunteers support set-up, registration, course marshals, water and cheer stations and festivities; volunteers appointed through the council undergo a background check.
