Girls on the Run Central Iowa 5K
The Girls on the Run Central Iowa 5K is the season closing event for Girls on the Run programs. The event centers on a 5K (3.1 miles) course with start and finish at Principal Park and celebrates completion as a source of confidence for program participants.
The 5K is open to the public and includes multiple registration categories: 5K Buddy (must be 16 or older), Sparkle Runner (women 18 or older who complete a background check), and Community Runner (open to all ages). Current Girls on the Run participants and coaches are automatically registered for the 5K and do not need to register separately. Registration pricing varies by date.
Packet pick-up for registered runners is held before the event at the Wellmark YMCA and at Principal Park on event day. Registered participants receive a race bib with pins, a t-shirt, a finisher medal, and finish-line snacks. Merchandise will also be available for purchase.
Safety and accessibility measures include council-provided bibs with emergency contact information, 5K Buddies and course volunteers, and designated accessible parking and course accommodations so participants can walk, run, push, or roll. The event proceeds rain or shine; in cases of severe weather, local authorities will be consulted and cancellations are final. Pets are not permitted. Additional on-site activities may include face painting, water stations, and hair stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
