Funest 50k @ Carter Rd
The event offers trail races on the mountain bike trails of Loyce E. Harpe Park in Mulberry, Florida. Distances offered include:
- 50k : five laps of a 10k loop
- 30k : three laps of a 10k loop
- 10k : one lap of a 10k loop
Courses run through an old, abandoned phosphate mine area on sand and dirt trails with rolling hills and winding turns. The route is marked with over 600 markers. Some sections are steep or technical enough that maintaining a 10:00 per mile pace can be difficult.
Aid and support are provided at the start area and at an aid station near the 3.5 mile point, with water, electrolytes and soda available. The event uses a 10 hour cutoff, equivalent to a 19:20 per mile pace. Field sizes are limited to 100 runners per distance. Awards are given to the top three overall men and women and the first masters men and women. Every finisher receives socks, a finisher sticker and an award.
Food will be available near the start and finish areas, including quesadillas, hot dogs, hamburgers, bacon, and other options. Ten dollars from each registration is donated to Polk County Parks and Recreation to support park maintenance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
