Frightening 4K
The Frightening 4K is a Halloween themed run with in-person and virtual options. The in-person event takes place in downtown Anchorage and is staged from the Hotel Captain Cook courtyard on 4th Avenue. The course is an out-and-back 4K that travels toward Ship Creek, with the start and finish at separate locations on 4th Avenue.
Participants encounter trick-or-treat stations near each kilometer on the in-person course. A costume contest is held for both in-person and virtual participants; virtual entries must upload costume photos by October 29 and winners are announced on October 31. Prizes are awarded for the best individual and group costumes, and the top three male and female runners receive awards.
Event swag includes Halloween treats and a long sleeve T shirt; the page features the 2025 design. Packet pickup and packet shipping are offered for in-person and virtual participants. Virtual packet shipping is free within Alaska, with a $5 fee for shipping to the lower 48 states and Hawaii, and shipping begins about one week before the event.
Safety policies restrict pets, bicycles, and rollerblades from the race. Participants using baby joggers or strollers are asked to start toward the back and to be courteous. Virtual participants must follow pedestrian safety rules and run against traffic where no sidewalk exists. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
