Event overview
The Turkey Trot is an in-person and virtual running and walking event staged from the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center in downtown Anchorage. The event offers two distances:
- 5K
- 2 Mile
The finish line is inside the Dena’ina Center and the start line is located at 8th Avenue and G Street. The in-person event includes age class awards and overall prizes for the 5K.
Logistics and rules
In-person participation is limited to 2,000 registrants. There is a bag drop available at the finish area. Roads on the race course will be closed for the event; participants should use downtown parking garages and streets and respect posted no-parking areas near the course. For safety, no pets, bicycles, or rollerblades are allowed. Participants with baby joggers or strollers are asked to start near the back of the field.
Age classes are 1-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+ for both men and women. The top three overall in each gender in the 5K receive a prize. Age class winners and the top three 10 and under in the Mini Turkey receive pies.
Charity, packets, and virtual options
The event supports the Food Bank of Alaska; donations through registration go directly to the Food Bank. A food drive collects non-perishable donations at Skinny Raven in the weeks before the event. Virtual participants can complete the distance on their own route, upload results, and request packet shipping; shipping within Alaska is free and shipping to the lower 48 or Hawaii carries a $5 fee.
