Fonta Flora 50K and Half Marathon
The event is held on trails and along the banks of Lake James State Park in Nebo, North Carolina. The start and finish are at Fonta Flora Brewery's Whippoorwill Farm near Shortoff Mountain and the Linville Gorge. Portions of proceeds support development of trails around Lake James and the Fonta Flora State Trail.
Distances included:
- 50K roughly 31.5 miles with about 2,400 feet elevation gain
- 50K 3 Person Relay legs ~13.5, 12.5, and 6 miles
- 50K 2 Person Relay legs ~13.5 and 18.5 miles
- Half Marathon roughly 13.1 miles with about 850 feet elevation gain
Course surfaces and limits are provided. The 50K includes about 30 miles of single track, 0.75 miles of gravel, and 0.75 miles of pavement with a 9.5 hour time limit. The half marathon includes about 12.8 miles of single track, 0.3 miles of pavement, and a 3.5 hour time limit.
Packet pick up is available Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Fonta Flora Whippoorwill Farm and on race days at the start/finish location. All runners must check in before racing. A costume contest is held during the weekend with free race entries offered as prizes.
