Fonta Flora 50K and Half Marathon
The Fonta Flora 50K and Half Marathon takes place on the trails near Lake James State Park in North Carolina. The courses feature gentle, rolling terrain along the shores of Lake James. Both races start and finish at Fonta Flora Brewery's Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, NC, near Shortoff Mountain and the Linville Gorge.
The event offers two distances:
- Half Marathon: Approximately 900 feet of elevation gain, with about 12.5 miles of single-track trail.
- 50K: Approximately 2,400 feet of elevation gain, with about 29 miles of single-track trail.
The routes begin in a field before entering stream-side single-track. Runners then travel on mountain bike trails through forest before continuing on single-track along Lake James. The 50K course includes a section on the new Fonta Flora State Trail. Aid stations provide water, sports drinks, soft drinks, and packaged snacks. All finishers receive a handmade pottery medal.
