5K Zombie Run & One Mile Spooky Family Fun Run
This event takes place on October 10, 2026 at the historic Courthouse Square in downtown Morganton, North Carolina. It includes two runs:
- 5K Zombie Run
- One Mile Family Fun Run
The 5K Zombie Run uses a flag-capture format. Runners wear Velcro belts with three flags; zombies stationed along the route attempt to remove flags. Participants receive participation medals. Separate first, second, and third place medals are awarded based on finishing times and flags retained. Volunteers will be stationed along the route and a timeclock will be located at the finish line.
The One Mile Family Fun Run is intended for families and groups who prefer a shorter distance and no interaction with zombies. Fun Run participants receive two special gifts after the run and are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes.
After the runs there is an after party at Courthouse Square with food trucks on site, Fonta Flora Brewery, music, activities, and a photo booth; event photography will also be provided. Zombie Run t-shirts are scheduled to be ordered on 2026-09-14. Proceeds from the event will be awarded to Blue Ridge Community Action Group and Mountain Aid Project. Registration fees are listed for each run and vary by date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
