Flying Turkey 5K/2K
The Flying Turkey 5K/2K is a holiday running event held on Thanksgiving Day in Crown Point, Indiana. The event starts at the Lake County Fairgrounds and offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 5 km
- 2 km
The 5 km course is described as flat and fast, utilizing the streets of Crown Point. This portion of the event is chip-timed, and organizers suggest a time limit of one hour, maintaining a pace of approximately 19 minutes per mile. The 2 km option is a non-timed event that consists of two laps around the lake.
Participants have the opportunity to take part in a costume contest and enjoy live music. Post-race activities include donuts and an awards ceremony. Awards are presented to the top overall and masters male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in various age groups ranging from 0-9 to 70 and over. Finisher medals are provided to the first 500 individuals who register.
The event supports local food pantries. Registration is conducted exclusively online, with no paper entries accepted on the day of the run. Dogs are permitted on the course provided they are on non-retractable leashes and current on vaccinations, though they are not allowed inside the buildings. Strollers are also allowed on the course.
