Flying Turkey 5K and 2K
The Flying Turkey 5K and 2K takes place on Thanksgiving Day at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Crown Point, Indiana. This event offers participants different distance and timing options to suit their preferences while supporting local food pantries.
Participants can choose from the following event distances:
- Timed 5K Run: A flat and fast course that travels along the streets of Crown Point.
- 2K Walk/Run: A non-timed route that remains entirely within the park grounds.
The 5K course has a suggested time limit of one hour, which equates to a pace of approximately 19 minutes per mile. Runners and walkers are permitted to participate with strollers, provided they remain aware of other participants. Dogs are also welcome on the course if they are on non-retractable leashes and current on vaccinations, though they are not permitted inside the event buildings.
Post-race activities include live music and donuts. The event also features a best costume contest and a performance of the National Anthem. Race awards are presented to the top overall male and female finishers, top masters finishers, and the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from under 9 to over 70. Finisher medals are provided to the first 500 registrants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
